Set Up Grain and Molasses-Based Ethanol Distillery- Government Approves Scheme for Increasing Ethanol Production.
Ethanol (also called ethyl alcohol, grain alcohol, drinking alcohol, spirits, or simply alcohol) is an organic chemical compound. It is a simple alcohol with the chemical formula C
2H
6O. its formula can be also written as CH3−CH2−OH or C2H5OH (an ethyl group linked to a hydroxyl group), and is often abbreviated as EtOH. Ethanol is a volatile, flammable, colorless liquid with a slight characteristic odor. It is a psychoactive substance, recreational drug, and the active ingredient in alcoholic drinks.

Ethanol is naturally produced by the fermentation of sugars by yeasts or via petrochemical processes such as ethylene hydration. It has medical applications as an antiseptic and disinfectant. It is used as a chemical solvent and in the synthesis of organic compounds. Ethanol is an alternative fuel source.
Ethanol commonly known as ethyl alcohol is colorless and flammable chemical compound with an agreeable odor and taste. It is renewable, and can be produced by the fermentation of starch and sugar based biological materials and cellulosic feedstock, such as sugarcane, wood, wheat, corn, and barley. Corn and starch based crops are majorly used for the production of ethanol. Ethanol is highly soluble in water and most of the organic solvent, due to this it is widely used as a solvent in various industries. Further, it is extensively used as a preservative in pharmaceutical industries and it is a major component in producing alcoholic beverages.

Uses:-
Most industrial ethanol is denatured to prevent its use as a beverage. Denatured ethanol contains small amounts, 1 or 2 percent each, of several different unpleasant or poisonous substances. The removal of all these substances would involve a series of treatments more expensive than the federal excise tax on alcoholic beverages (currently about $20 per gallon). These denaturants render ethanol unfit for some industrial uses. In such industries undenatured ethanol is used under close federal supervision.

Anhydrous ethanol (ethanol with less than 1% water) can be blended with gasoline in varying quantities up to pure ethanol (E100), and most spark-ignited gasoline style engines will operate well with mixtures of 10% ethanol (E10). Most cars on the road today in the U.S. can run on blends of up to 10% ethanol and the use of 10% ethanol gasoline is mandated in some cities where harmful levels of auto emissions are possible. According to the International Energy Agency, cellulosic ethanol could allow ethanol fuels to play a much bigger role in the future than previously thought. Cellulosic ethanol offers promise as resistant.

Market Outlook
The global ethanol market size was valued at USD 89.1 billion in 2019 and is anticipated to register a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.8% from 2020 to 2027. The demand for the product is driven by growing usage of the product as a biofuel. The rising consumption of alcoholic beverages is another major factor supporting market growth. Ethanol can be manufactured by both natural as well as petrochemical feed stocks. In the natural process, natural sugars are fermented in the presence of yeast. Ethylene production is increasing owing to the rise in shale gas production. As oil output reduces and new ethylene capacities come online the market is expected to overstock with ethylene, which is expected to bring stagnancy in production of ethanol.

The application of ethanol as a biofuel is one of the major market drivers. The automotive industry has grown rapidly over the past years and has faced many problems to control air pollution. Ethanol is blended with gasoline up to concentrations of 10% and 15% to tackle the problem of rising air pollution caused by automobiles. The addition of ethanol provides major advantages in terms of improved fuel economy, increased thermal efficiency and helps in cold starts during the winter season. U.S. and Brazil are the countries that are leading the world, in terms of application of ethanol as biofuel.
