Pulp may either mean a fruit's soft, moist part or is a soft part of a fruit. Completely matured fruits are collected and delivered rapidly to the farm for fruit processing. In manual ripening chambers or natural ripening in open yards, the fruits are ripened.

To maintain sterility, fully ripened fruits are washed, pulped, deseeded, centrifuged, homogenized, thermally processed and hot filled.

Over the past two decades, the market demand for tropical fruits has been gradually increasing. Global tropical fruit production (excluding bananas) in 2010 reached 73,02 million (M) metric tons (t). Papaya is now third with 11.22 Mt, or 15.36 percent of the global supply of tropical fruit, gaining worldwide fame, behind mango with 38.6 Mt (52.86 percent) and pineapple with 19.41 Mt. (26.58 %).
