Clomazone belongs to a new chemistry group, the isoxazolidinones, and acts by inhibiting the biosynthesis of photosynthetic pigments of both chlorophyll and carotenoids. It can be applied early preplant, pre-emergent or preplant-incorporated, depending on the crop, geographical area, and timing. Clomazone is a colorless to light brown, viscous liquid above room temperature. When cooled, it forms a white crystalline solid. Its molecular formula is 2-(2-chlorobenzyl)-4,4-dimethyl-1,2-oxazolidin-3-one.Clomazone is a slightly toxic material by ingestion, inhalation, and dermal exposure
Uses and Applications
Clomazone is very active on Chenopodium album, Galinsoga parviflora, Stachys arvensis, Polygonum aviculare and Echinochloa crus-galli. Clomazone also provides suppression of Solanum nigrum, Amaranthus spp. And Raphanus raphanistrum. Foliar contact or vapours may cause visual symptoms of chlorosis to nearby sensitive plants. Clomazone is applied to most of the Arkansas rice acreage for grass weed control, especially barnyardgrass, the most troublesome weed of rice. The use of clomazone is expected to have minimal impact on the environment with little potential to accumulate or move into ground water due to its physical-chemical properties.
Market Survey
It is a Group of Herbicide. Clomazone (Command 480EC) is a herbicide whichwas first discovered by the FMC Corporation in the USA in 1979. Since this time it has been developedfor use in a range of crops in the USA, South America, New Zealand and other countries. Key cropsclomazone is used on in the USA. Clomazone was targeted for development in Australia to assist in managing weed problems in a range of crops. These include crops where the product was currently being used overseas (potatoes, beans, tobacco, cucurbits and rice), as well as a new usage in poppies.Besides, in domestic market, clomazone products are primarily sold to Northeast China, about 60% of clomazone produced in China is exported to overseas, and the overseas market mainly focuses on Europe, South America and the North American.
