SHIPPING CONTAINER INDUSTRY
A shipping container is a sturdy container that can survive transportation, storage, and handling. These containers range in size from massive reusable steel boxes for intermodal transportation to the common corrugated boxes. Containers are a way of bundling cargo and items into huge unitized loads that can be easily handled, moved, and stacked in a ship or yard, similar to cardboard boxes and pallets. Aluminum and steel are the most common materials used. Each container’s size and type are in accordance with the International Organization for Standardization’s specifications and rules. Shipping containers have a high strength capacity, making them excellent for shipments, storage, and handling. Large reusable steel boxes used for intermodal shipments to ubiquitous corrugated boxes are all examples of shipping containers. A growing propensity for seaborne trade among developed and emerging countries is a primary element driving the worldwide shipping container market’s rise.
ENTREPRENEURIAL OPPORTUNITIES
There are wide range of opportunities in different type of containers as follow-
Dry Storage Container: The most common shipping container is a dry storage container, which comes in a variety of ISO-standardized dimensions. They come in sizes of 20ft, 40ft, and 10ft and are used to transport dry items.
Flat Rack Container: A flat rack container is a simple storage shipping container with foldable sides that may be folded to form a flat rack for conveying various things.
Open Top Container: A convertible top that can be removed completely to create an open-top may transport materials of any height.
Tunnel Container: The use of tank storage containers with doors on both ends is suitable for loading and unloading products quickly.
Open Side Storage Container: These storage cabinets include doors that can be transformed to fully open sides, allowing you to load your items even more easily.
Double Doors Container: A two-door storage facility that provides additional space for cargo loading and unloading. Steel, iron, and other construction materials are available in standard lengths of 20ft and 40ft.
Refrigerated ISO Containers: These are temperature-controlled transportation containers that are maintained at a constant low temperature. They are only used to transport perishable commodities such as fruits and vegetables over long distances.
Insulated or Thermal Containers: These are temperature-controlled shipping storage containers that can keep a constant temperature. The materials are chosen to be able to survive sustained exposure to high temperatures over a lengthy period of time. They’re perfect for moving goods across long distances.
Cargo Storage Roll Container: One of the specialised container units developed for transporting sets or stacks of items is a foldable container. They’re made of sturdy, durable wire mesh and come with rollers for easy transport. These shipping container modules are given a splash of colour thanks to the availability of a variety of coloured wire meshes.
GLOBAL MARKET OUTLOOK
The market for shipping containers is expected to rise at a rate of 4.3 percent this year. There is an increase in demand for cargo transportation via waterways. This is because, in comparison to other modes of transportation, a greater quantity of cargos are efficiently carried to the other end in a more secure manner. Furthermore, compared to road and air transportation, cargo ships are less expensive for carrying products. Ships can transport more cargo from one location to another in less time. According to UNCTAD data, roughly 1687 million tonnes of goods are transported annually in 177.6 million containers travelling 998 billion tons-miles. The need for cargo transportation via ships is increasing as a result of recent improvements in commercial boats and large players’ innovation of better and more efficient cargo ships equipped with cutting-edge technology such as enhanced sensors, navigation systems, and other components. As a result, the shipping container market expands, and the cargo business expands as well. Growth in the global economy, rising seaborne trade, increasing demand for highly efficient and superior capacity shipping containers, growth in sales of specialised shipping containers by the Department of Defense, and a rising trend of increasing use of remote container management (RCM) solutions are all driving the growth of shipping containers.
INDIAN CONTAINER MARKET
With many policy reforms in place, the Indian container sector is experiencing incremental double-digit growth year-on-year, supporting the container trade against the global slump. Improvements in transshipment numbers at Indian ports, direct port delivery (DPD), direct port entry (DPE), authorised economic operators (AEOs), port community systems (PCS), digitization and automation of cargo movement through port gates, and so on are some of the key areas of improvement that are notably aiding the market’s upward trend. The container volume growth at each port is improving year over year as a result of healthy competition among large and private ports.
