TAMARIND
Tamarind is the fruit of a huge tropical tree that grows in forests, orchards, and along roadsides as an avenue tree. It is primarily grown in South India and a few other sections of the country. The tree takes more than ten years to begin bearing fruit. Tamarind trees blossom once a year, in July-August, and the fruits are ready to pick in January-February. Thousands of fruits are produced by each tree. Each fruit is 10 to 15 cm long and 15 to 20 mm wide, with a curved shape. There are 6 to 8 seeds in each fruit. The fruit has a brown outer shell that protects it. Pods are what they’re called. Tamarind seeds are carefully extracted with the use of a sharp knife. Tamarind seed has a tough hull/husk that is black-brown in colour.

Tamarind extract contains vitamin C, which helps to prevent cancer to some extent. The shift in client preferences away from artificial preservatives like ethanoic acid, lactic acid, and benzoic acid and toward tamarind as a natural preservative has resulted in a surge in tamarind extract sales. Furthermore, one of the causes expected to drive tamarind extract demand globally is the cosmetics and personal care industry’s demand for the extract.
