Introduction
Sulfonic linear alkyl benzene results in linear alkyl benzene sulfonic acid (LABSA) (LAB). Linear alkyl benzene sulfonate (LAS), the world's most widely used synthetic surfactant, which contains various salts of sulfonate alkyl benzenes, is widely used in household detergents as well as a number of industrial applications. The LABSA industry is driven by the LAS market, which primarily consists of household detergents. As a biodegradable replacement for BAS, nonlinear (branched) alkyl benzene sulfonate (BAS) was developed, and it has largely replaced BAS in household detergents around the world.

Uses of Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid
In the detergent industry, LABSA is mainly used to produce washing powder, detergent powder, detergent cake, liquid soap, oil soap, scouring bar, and cleaning powder. In anionic specialty formulations, this material is used. It has the ability to improve pesticide spray quality. Linear alkyl benzene Sulphonic acid is used as a washing and mercerizing agent in the textile industry. With a linear alkyl chain, benzene Sulphonic acid is used as a washing and mercerizing agent in the textile industry. Distempers are treated with LABSA to increase their surface area. It's used as a wetting agent and emulsifier in toilet soap foaming, along with other surfactants, in small quantities.
Process for Producing Linear Alkyl Benzene
Due to its high active matter content and miscibility with low salt content and water, LABSA is used in the polymerization of emulsions and the manufacture of coupling agents, emulsifiers, agricultural herbicides, household and industrial cleaners. A hydrocarbon condensate containing olefins, paraffin, and oxygenates is produced by a low-temperature Fischer-Tropsch reaction.
a) fractionating the hydrocarbon condensate into a fractionated hydrocarbon condensate stream with a desired carbon number distribution; b) separating oxygenates from the fractionated hydrocarbon condensate stream from step (a) to create an olefins and paraffin stream; c) mixing the olefins and paraffin stream from step (b) with the feed stream from step (g) to generate a blended stream; d) alkylating olefins from step (c) with benzene in an alkylation reactor in the presence of a suitable alkylation catalyst; e) recovering linear alkyl benzene from the alkylation reactor; f) recovering unreacted paraffin from the alkylation reactor g) dehydrogenating the unreacted paraffin in the presence of a suitable dehydrogenation catalyst to form an olefins and paraffin feed stream; and h) sending the olefins and paraffin feed stream from step (g) to step (h) (c).

Market Outlook
The anionic surfactant Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid contains both hydrophobic and hydrophilic groups in its molecules. They are non-volatile sulfonate compounds. Linear alkyl benzene sulfonic acid is a complex mixture of homologues with different alkyl chain lengths (C10 to C13 or C14) and phenyl positional isomers of 2 to 5-phenyl in proportions determined by the starting materials and reaction conditions, each containing an aromatic ring sulfonate at the para location and connected to a linear alkyl chain at any position except terminal one, each containing an aromatic ring (1-phenyl).

The physical and chemical properties of linear alkyl benzene sulfonic differ depending on the length of the alkyl chain, resulting in formulations for a variety of applications. LABSA is a low-tech industry with a high labor-intensive component. There are currently a significant number of manufacturing companies in the global LABSA industry. CEPSA, Sasol, KAPACHIM, Stepan, New India Detergents, ISU Chemical, and Nan Tung are among the companies involved. The major market players are Ho Tung, CEPSA, Sasol, KAPACHIM, Stepan, New India Detergents, ISU Chemical, and Nanjing Gige.
An increase in demand for industrial cleaners to maintain industrial hygiene is also helping the linear alkyl benzene sulfonic acid market in the region. LABSA production increased to 3211.81 MT in 2016 from 2756.30 MT in 2012, an average growth rate of 3.90 percent.
The global LABSA capacity utilization rate was about 73 percent in 2016. From 2021 to 2026, the global Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.5 percent, rising from 3606.9 million USD in 2021 to 4601.4 million USD by 2026's end.
