Edge banding is the method of covering the raw edges of wood panels with a thin strip of wood, PVC, or resinous material. Edge bands refer to the thin strips themselves. Edge banding is performed commercially with industry-grade heat applicators and a hot-melt adhesive. To provide a tight glue line, thicker edge bandings usually need a slight concavity. The thickness can range from.018" to 5mm and beyond. Edge benders are the machines that apply the edge banding. An edge bender adheres the edge banding to the substrate, trims the leading and trailing edges, flushes the top and bottom edges with the substrate, scrapes any excess, and buffs the finished edge. PVC strips can be made to fit the exact colour and finish of your modular frame, resulting in a seamless appearance.
